Raspberry-, watermelon- and blackberry-flavored "O's" replaced the traditional orange, lemon and lime. Pineapple and cherry remained in the new rolls. The new flavors were picked in Web-based promotion in which nearly 2 million consumers voted from February through April of 2003.

Manufacturer Notes: Chocolate maker Clarence Crane searched to find a sweet treat to withstand the summer heat better than his chocolate. In 1912 Crane produced Life Savers Pep-O-Mint candies with the unique idea of punching a hole in the middle of the mint. Because of their resemblance to life preservers the brand name Life Savers was chosen. Fruit flavored Life Savers were introduced in 1924 in Lemon, Lime and Orange. It was not until 1935 that the iconic Five Flavor assortment was created. The Five Flavors remained the same until 2003 when a campaign was launched for fans to vote on the new five flavors. Cherry, Pineapple, Raspberry, Watermelon and Blackberry won, but Blackberry did not last long in the mix – consumers demanded Orange instead.
